Secondo lo scienziato Rhawn Joseph, che  ha fatto causa alla Nasa,la misteriosa forma comparsa in un fotogramma ripreso dal rover  NASA Opportunity su marte, è un fungo, non una roccia, dunque  questo testimonierebbe l’esistenza di una forma di vita sul pianeta rosso. Rahwn sostiene che dalle immagini si rileva che l'oggetto potrebbe essere un apothecium, una specie di lichene.Con questa certezza, lo scienziato Rhawn Joseph ha fatto causa alla Nasa, accusandola di non aver voluto studiare in modo approfondito l'oggetto definito dagli scienziati americani una ciambella con una consistenza gelatinosa. Lo stesso responsabile della missione Steve Squyres, ha detto: “E’ stupefacente, prima non c’era lì!”
