Jack Whiteside Parsons era un uomo insolito. Secondo il biografo dell'ingegnere, George Pendle,Jack Whiteside Parsons era un occultista e discepolo del famigerato Aleister Crowley . Accusato di essere  stato marxsista in gioventù , di aver fatto spionaggio industriale per gli israeliani, si è poi legato ad un ordine religioso di ispirazione spiritista-massonico, Thelema,diventandone un'esponente di punta. Parsons è morto in una esplosione nel laboratorio di casa nel 1952 a soli 37 anni, in circostanze misteriose.
