Contatto extraterrestre: Siamo pronti? - Extraterrestrial Contact: Are we ready?

---English Version---
Scientists at the SETI are known to localize possible extraterrestrial signals , but now are also considering sending messages from the Earth to "tell us." A researcher at the University of Cadiz (Spain ) wonders whether this idea is correct in view of the results of a survey of students , revealing the general level of ignorance about the cosmos and the influence of religion when addressing these issues. THE project ( SETI ) Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence is an initiative that began in the '70s with funding from NASA, but that has evolved with the help of millions of Internet users for the processing and analysis of data the Arecibo Observatory ( Puerto Rico) . The members of this controversial project are trying to go further and not only the search for extraterrestrial signs , but also actively sending messages from Earth ( SETI active) ( or CETI ) to detect extraterrestrial civilizations . Astrophysicists, such as Stephen Hawking, have already warned of the risk that this poses to humanity , since that could lead to the arrival of beings with the most advanced technology and dubious intentions . The sociological and ethical implications of this proposal have been analyzed by neuro- psychologist Gabriel G. de la Torre, a professor at the University of Cadiz and participated in previous projects , such as psychology or Mars 500 project space , a project funded by the European Space , which asks: " What would happen if someone were to get our signal ? are we ready for this type of contact ? ? " To answer these questions , the teacher sent a questionnaire to 116 undergraduates Americans, Italians and Spaniards. The survey assessed their knowledge of astronomy, their level of perception of the physical environment , their views on the things that take place in the cosmos , as well as religious issues - for example, " do you believe that God created ' universe ? " - Or on the probability of contact with extraterrestrials . The findings, published in the journal ' Acta Astronautica ' , indicate that, as a species , humanity is not yet ready for an active contact with an extraterrestrial civilization , because the people have no knowledge and preparation. For this reason , the SETI researchers are evaluating alternative strategies. " This pilot study shows that the public's knowledge of a certain level of education about the cosmos and our place within it is still scarce Therefore, a cosmic consciousness needs to be further promoted - . Where our minds are increasingly aware of global reality that surrounds us - by using the best tool at our disposal : education, " De la Torre pointed out . "In this regard , we need a new Galileo to lead this trip ." It ' was deduced from the questionnaires, which will soon be available to all online, college students and the rest of society are not aware of many aspects astronomical , despite the enormous advancements in science and technology. "As far as our relationship with a possible extraterrestrial intelligent life , we should not rely on landmarks of moral thought, since they are strongly influenced by religion . Why do some more intelligent beings to be ' good ' ? " He added the researcher, who believes that the issue should not be monopolized by a handful of scientists : "In fact, it is a global issue , with a strong ethical component in which all must participate."
