First observation of a massive eruption of solar

Guided by the photo space , the researchers scanned a large territory in the vicinity of the village  Poligusa from where it was observed that the space object crashed into the Earth in 1908. The Tunguska event was an explosion airline that occurred near the Tunguska River in Siberia, June 30, 1908 . The explosion felled 60 million trees  2150 square kilometers. On that day , local residents observed a huge fireball , almost as bright as the Sun , moving across the sky. few  minutes later, a flash that lit up half the sky , followed by a shock wave that broke windows up to 400 miles away. The explosion registered on seismic stations across Eurasia , has produced changes in atmospheric pressure strong enough to be detected by barographs recently invented in Britain. In the United States , the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and the Mount Wilson Observatory observed a decrease in atmospheric transparency that lasted  for several months.
Until this year the members of numerous expeditions have failed to find any remains of the object that caused the event .

In recent decades, the idea that our universe could be one of the many alternate universes within a giant multiverse has grown from a fantasy to a legitimate theoretical possibility . Several theories of physics and astronomy have hypothesized the existence of a multiverse made of many parallel universes. An obvious question that arises , then, is exactly how many of these parallel universes might exist ?
In a new study , Stanford physicists Andrei Linde and Vitaly Vanchurin have calculated the number of all possible universes , to arrive at an answer of 10 ^ 10 ^ 16 .
If this number sounds large, the scientists explain that it would have been even more colossal , except that we observers are limited in our ability to distinguish more universes ; otherwise, there could be up to 10 ^ 10 ^ 10 ^ 7 universes. To find these numbers , Linde and Vanchurin looked back up to the time shortly after the Big Bang , where they believe there has been a quantum process that has
generated a lot of quantum fluctuations . Then, during the period of inflation , the universe grew rapidly and these quantum fluctuations would have been " frozen " in classical perturbations in distinct regions ( or universes ) . Today, each of these regions could be a different universe , with its own separate laws of physics. By analyzing the mechanism that initially generated the quantum fluctuations , the scientists were able to estimate the number of universes resulting in 10 ^ 10 ^ 10 ^ 7 . However, this number is limited by other factors, in particular the limitations of the human brain . Since the total amount of information that an individual can absorb in a life is about 10 ^ 16 bits, which is equivalent to 10 ^ 10 ^ 16 configurations , this means that a human brain can not distinguish more than 10 ^ 10 ^ 16 universes.  A crucial part of their calculation is an investigation of quantum effects on scales supergalattiche . In this type of scenario , the state of the multiverse and the observations made by an observer are correlated (similar to the experiment of Schrödinger , in which the result can only be determined after it was recorded by an observer classic ) . " When we analyze the probability of the existence of a universe of a certain kind , we should speak of a pair consisting of : the universe and an observer who does the rest. As the scientists explain , the calculation of the number of universes is an important step towards an even bigger goal : find the probability of living in a universe with a particular set of properties . What are the chances that we live in a world where the laws of physics are these laws that we observe today ?

Time travel: Experiment demonstrates how to avoid the grandfather paradox

Among the many interesting concepts related to the theories of Einstein's relativity is the idea of closed curves (CTC ), which are paths in space-time that they return to their starting point. As such, CTC offers the chance to travel back in time. But , like many science fiction films have addressed , time travel is full of potential paradoxes. Perhaps the most important of these is the grandfather paradox , in which a time traveler goes back in time and kills his grandfather , preventing her birth .
In a new study , a team of researchers has proposed a new theory of CTC able to resolve the grandfather paradox . The researchers, led by Seth Lloyd of MIT , along with researchers at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, Italy ; the University of Pavia in Pavia , Italy ; Tokyo Institute of Technology ; and the University of Toronto , have published their study in a recent issue of Physical Review Letters. The concepts in the study are similar to a previous study by some of the same authors who have published on arXiv.org last year. " The Theory of Einstein's general relativity supports closed curves ," Lloyd said to PhysOrg.com . "For decades researchers have discussed how to deal with objects
in quantum mechanics . Our theory shows how time travel could be achieved even in the absence of other relativistic closed curves . "In the new theory, the CTC are expected to behave like ideal quantum channels of the type involved in the teleportation . In this theory , self-consistent CTC (those that do not give rise to paradoxes ) are postselected , and are called " P -CTC . " as the scientists explain , this theory is different from the widely accepted quantum theory of CTCs proposed by physicist David Deutsch, in which a time traveler maintains self- consistency by traveling back in a past different from what he remembers . formulation in the P- CTC , time travelers who need to travel into the past are remembered . postselecting CTC Although it may sound complicated , it really can be studied experimentally in laboratory simulations . by sending a qubit "living" (ie , in the state 1 ) a few billionths of a second back in time to try to " kill " his former self (ie , flip the state 0) , the scientists show that only photons that do not kill themselves can make the trip. In normal physics (ie no closed curves ) , you specify the state of a system in the past, and the laws of physics as they say that the system evolves in the future. In the presence of CTCs, this prescription breaks down : it was in the past and the laws of physics are no longer sufficient to specify the state in the future.
However, scientists have observed that the prohibition of events that would cause paradoxical unlikely events happen more often. These " strange counterintuitive effects " arise due to the nonlinear nature of the P- CTC . As a hero of cinema that always manages to escape death apparently imminent,
Grandpa always somehow be able to survive the murderous plots of his nephew. " Some small quantum fluctuation could slam the ball away at the last moment ," said Lloyd.
